Henry, founder of DesiknitHi, I'm Henry 👋
Follow my process

I build Desiknit out loud.

Sketches, prototypes, bugs, wins — I post them all as I go. If you like watching things get built, this is where to hang out.

The story so far

Four chapters, one thread.

The idea

High school, a spool of wool, and a very patient mother.

My mum knits. A lot. But every pattern she loved was written for one specific yarn — and switching meant hours of gauge math. I started sketching a tiny tool that could recompute stitch counts. Just for her.

Prototype

First version. Very buggy. Very fun.

Engineering school gave me the excuse to actually build it. The first prototype crashed constantly, drew ugly grids, and forgot half the rows. But it worked — you could see a pattern morph to a new gauge in real time.

Yarn 2 Yarn

A real app with drawings by Charlotte.

I teamed up with illustrator Charlotte Sjöstrand, rebuilt the editor from scratch, added seven languages, and shipped it as a proper desktop app. One-time purchase — because that's how I want to buy software too.

Now

Skein calculator, free patterns, and everything next.

The skein calculator and the sweater generator came from real questions people were asking me. I'm building slowly, in the open. Follow along — every sticker, every bug fix, every knit.

Behind the scenes

Watch the next chapter as it happens.

New patterns, new features, new bugs. I post every step on Instagram — join in.
